VMAs 2013

So last night was the VMAs but because I am from the UK, I am currently watching the re-run as I type! However, I have spent the last hour looking at the red carpet images and all I can say is I am underwhelmed. I imagine the best-dressed lists will be a rather short read as there were very few celebrities who came out any plaudits. Here are a few looks that caught my eye.

My best-dressed has to be one Ellie Goulding. Now I used to be a HUGE fan of her when she first came onto the music scene but I thought she had second album syndrome. However, I have never really noticed her style until now! If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know that I love studs more than any other embellishment or pattern so this dress is right up my street! I'm not usually a fan of the polo neck but this just seems to work and the dress fits her like a glove! And I know the side leg split has been done soooooo many times on the red carpet lately but I say if you've got the legs, why not show them off?! Simple jewellery, nude heels and her trademark messy hair finish up this look.

Next up is Naya Rivera. I'm obsessed with Glee anyway and all of the girls in it have amazing style! Naya is definitely the one with the sexiest style and this is no let-down! This dress has such understated sexiness about it with the cut-out sides, my idea of sexy. In fairness, I think she is just an all-round sexy woman, I have such a girl crush on her. Yeah, this look is just perfect and she is perfect in that dress.

Now to one Miss Selena. I'm not ashamed to say I love everything about her. I love how her style has evolved and now she has such a grown-up fashion sense. This might be one of my favourite looks on her. The corset underneath the dress makes the dress look oh-so-sexy but because of the peekaboo aspect, the long sleeves keep it classy. I also love the detail on the seams of the dress and the navy colour! Again, loving the side split and those peeptoes. She just looks so elegant nowadays unlike most young stars out there (ahem, Miley Cyrus, I'm talking about you!)

Next up is Selena's bezzie and apparent date for the night, Taylor Swift. I love how they colour-coordinated with each other in this navy shade, which happens to be one of my favourite colours! Now I am all for this dress; it hugs her body perfectly but I HATE the hair! It makes her look so old! You know I love you Tay but just not the hair in this style!

Miley, Miley, Miley. What on Earth are you doing with your life? Stage costumes and performance aside, this look just looks like she has a pair of basic black leggings on and she's got her little sister to stick some gems on her! Just no, try and be a bit classier Cyrus!

Next up is Allison Williams from Girls, a newcomer to the red carpet scene but boy does she know how to dress her body! I have seen so many of her looks and she gets it so right pretty much every time! This little lace number is such a classic look unlike most of the dresses on display on this carpet! She knows her style and sticks to it and this dress fits her to a tee.

Last but not least is Shailene Woodley. The young actress looks stunning in this two-piece ensemble. I love the plain crop top with the patterned skirt. Because she was only presenting, I like that she went with a quieter look because it was a night for musicians. And look at the legs on her, jealous!

Why You Need A Guy Best Friend

Now I am all for girl power but over the years, I have found that some males actually are useful to have around. Other than your dad, every girl needs a guy best friend. They can help you with many things that a girl best friend can't, the main one being a male's perspective on things.

James and I

James is my guy best friend; we first met three years ago when we were in the same English class at college. The best thing about him is that he is always honest with me, at times a little too honest actually! I've lost count of the number of times we've fallen out over random stuff but at the end of the day, we'll always be there for each other. He's sort of like my big little brother (he's taller than me but younger) so he's very protective and I always go to him for advice on the other guys in my life. He makes me think of the pros and cons of the guy and then tries to guide me in the right direction, which doesn't always happen because I'm so stubborn! 

Guy best friends are meant to be an escape from the bitchiness of girl world but James definitely likes a bitch every now and then! We don't agree on everything, such as football (James is a Chelsea fan whilst I support Arsenal) but that's healthy for any friendship. Every girl needs a guy in her life who can cheer her up when she's had a bad day. Yes, you can always get a boyfriend but the good part of having a guy best friend- they won't leave you. I know that James will always be an important part of my life and any guy that I date will have to get his seal of approval.

Today's Outfit 06/08/2013

Today I spent the morning/early afternoon catching up with one of my best friends, Ellie. We ended up just going for lunch but it was good to talk to her; I haven't seen her in over a month! Here was my outfit for the day:

I know cropped tops are a huge trend this season but I am sick of seeing girls of all shapes and sizes in tiny tops paired with tiny shorts. I'm all for flaunting what you've got but it should be boobs, belly, bum or legs- not all four. Two is appropriate but with a crop top and bum shorts, you've got a full house! A cropped top should be understated sexy; it shows the stomach which is not often seen. However, there can be such a thing as too much skin on display hence my rule above so by pairing the top with a high-waisted skirt, it takes the look from being trashy to classy and sexy. The skirt I have on here is one of my absolute faves; it's a tulip style and is super soft. I also like the way it gives me some curves because of the detail on it which you can't see very clearly! This outfit was perfect for a day's shopping and eating!
