Today's Outfit 28/01/2013

Day 1, semester 2. New beginning perhaps? Now I like any excuse for a new start; it means new everything. So since Christmas, I've had a new haircut and had a wardrobe sort-out. Now I do love fashion but apparently, certain people in my life think I don't dress girly enough. So today is definitely a new beginning.

This dress is actually navy and matches the cardi but my photography skills are lacking (as are my posing skills!). I also do not wear enough patterns as being a petite girl, they tend to look too much on a slight frame; however, with a smaller print, I can get away with it. The only problem with this dress is that it is not a flattering shape; I had to find an old belt from another dress to pair with it! And as always, I have a load of friendship bracelets on (I'm an addict) and I'm wearing a necklace for once!

My favourite shop in the world.

Forever 21. My favourite shop in the entire world. The only problem is because it's American, it's not massively known in the UK. There are a few stores in this country but for me, it means a 2 and a half hour drive, just to get to one. However, with the power of the Internet, I can access thousands of items without having to leave the sofa. So here are my recent purchases from the site!
Forever21.com
1.) Burnout Baseball Tee (Navy/Charcoal, Peach/Charcoal, White/Charcoal)- £7.25
2.) Best Things Linen Tee (White/Black)- £12.00
3.) Faux Leather Tee (Charcoal/Black)- £12.75

1.) I bought these T-shirts in three different colours, purely because I love the shape of baseball T-shirts! They look great paired with a pair of skinny jeans and Converse but the navy and white ones of mine are actually long enough to be paired with leggings! No idea why they are slightly bigger than the peach one!

2.) I love the slogan on this shirt; however, this is more of a knit material as opposed to cotton which gives it a translucent effect, so I would advise to wear a cami underneath if you don't want your bra on show! This will look great in the summer with a pair of distressed denim shorts!

3.) This is a short-sleeved version of a top I have from Zara that has leather sleeves as opposed to the pocket on this one. I plan to wear it when going out for a meal with family or something along those lines with a pair of black skinny trousers or perhaps a pair of black shorts.

My obsession with Rachel Berry

So I'm currently writing this post whilst blasting out Everything Everything's Arc album. But let's get down to business. Glee. I have been an avid fan since season 1 and then dipped in and out of seasons 2 and 3 and now I'm back gripped on Season 4. Despite this, I have always been a member of the Rachel Berry fan club. Her voice, her mannerisms, her style. So she might not be Miss Sexy at McKinley High but her New York style transition has brought out a more mature essence in her style. Here are my top 10 looks of Rachel's New York adventure.

1.) This is typical Rachel. Preppy, block colour, those shoes! This is very Gossip Girl-esque uniform, which I am a HUGE fan of too! I like how the accents of this outfit match the outfit itself; the headband with the skirt and the heeled loafers with the cardigan. And I am obsessed with these shoes! I love a flat loafer anyway but with a cute little heel? These are just perfect! The outfit is kept simple with little jewellery and make-up (stereotypical Miss Berry) and topped off with the cute little chain-handle bag, Chanel style.

2.) This next outfit is a more mature outfit for Rachel, highlighting her move to New York and its need for a more sophisticated look. A mac should be a staple in any girl's wardrobe I would say (I am the owner of a black one with a studded collar); they make any outfit look instantly smarter. Rachel here has paired it with a gorgeous black snood, which is fabulous for a winter's day. Underneath is a simple yet stylish ensemble. A black polo neck jumper and what looks like a grey sort of tweed skirt. Paired with some opaque black tights and suede knee high platform boots to give her some added height, this look certainly puts her on the style map at NYADA!

3.) Another of Rachel's college outfits here; again she is relying on staple items to get an effortless look overall. Here she pairs a light grey cashmere sweater with what I would call black 'smart shorts' because of their trouser-style material rather than denim. The pop of the bright red belt against the black keeps this outfit looking far from dull. This time it is teamed with black knee high socks, which add instant sex appeal, and those trusty black suede boots.

4.) Again, opting for the sweater-shorts combination which looks like will be her secret style weapon, here she goes for a red sweater and pairs it with navy shorts. Noting to her old school style, she adds a pair of patent navy loafers and an oh-so-stylish navy beret to add a Parisian touch to the overall look.

5.) This outfit is the result of Kurt's New York makeover to introduce the city to the sexier side of Rachel. Reverting to another wardrobe staple, the smart black blazer, here it is teamed with a brown silk tee and a mustard yellow A-line skirt. Now I am not a fan of anything yellow on myself, but here it just seems to work with her skintone. To complete the look, it is paired with a pair of beautiful black patent heels, another item that every girl should have in her arsenal. They instantly make any outfit look dressier.

6.) Those black boots are getting their monies worth in New York! Rachel opts here for an all-black ensemble but looks effortlessly chic in doing so! A simple black long-sleeved polo neck and what looks like a black leather mini are guaranteed to help her fit in with the New York crowd. Teaming them with black knee-high socks again and those killer boots, she's got the mature-but-stylish look down to a tee.

7.) This look is actually pre-makeover but still manages to look on-trend without overdoing it. A simple black tank and cardigan are a reference to her pre-New York wardrobe but here are paired with a burgundy chiffon skirt. Rachel must have had outfit permission from Kurt for this as burgundy seems to be the 'in' colour this season!

8.) This outfit would look perfect on a night out but here it looks like Rachel is wearing it to an event of some sort. The textured peplum top is still very much on-trend and paired with a leather skirt, this all-black look looks far from dull! The key to wearing an all-black outfit is to mix up the fabrics and textures of pieces so it doesn't look drab and adding a fab accessory, such as this stunning clutch, helps to take the attention away from the lack of colour on show.

9.) When she's not attending classes or exploring the city, Rachel can be seen relaxing in her chic loft apartment that she shares with Kurt. Instead of chillaxing in a pair of joggers like the majority of us do when at home, she opts for a simple pair of black skinny jeans and a grey and cream stripy jumper. Stylish without looking like a try-hard.

10.) Saving the best 'til last. This dress is practically a piece of art; the texture of the dress and the attention to detail of it, you can tell straight away that it's designer. After all, they have raided the Vogue.com closet! With such a spectacle of a dress, it has to be paired with simple accessories. Patent black platforms and a simple gem necklace complete this fabulous look!

Welcome!

Hi there! This is my 2847596th attempt at starting a blog that I will actually remember to update, but it is my New Year's resolution to make it work to get my potential journalist hopes alive. So I'm currently sat here trying to research for an essay for my Business degree whilst blasting out Glee songs. Yes, you're probably thinking, why is she doing a Business degree and wants to be a journalist? Long story short, I moved away to start a Journalism degree but got homesick and moved back. The only issue with my hometown uni is that the closest thing to Journalism is English, and I'm not the biggest fan of proper literature. So there goes. A Business degree is a solid degree, I get the background of businesses and who knows, I might become a business journalist?!

So in all seriousness, this blog will be mostly my opinions on anything from Taylor Swift's latest outfit to a review of a film I've just seen. Anything fashion, music, films, sport. Bit of this, lot of that. You get the jist. I'll try and update most days about something or other. Until then, have fun! Sian x
